May someone explain this to me? (R9 290X)

This is the first AMD GPU I've had. The thing is that I want to overclock it, while it apparently refuses fermly. What is the problem with this? I have tried the drivers shown on amd site. Halp
. AMD OverDrive says "amd overdrive cannot detect amd cpu or the current processor does not support OverDrive while MSI has that cute way of showing the middle finger by showing 0s at clocks and temps and having every overclocking option greyed out.

Have you tried removing and reinstalling both the AMD drivers and the MSI Afterburner? Sounds like some driver doesn't work properly. Also make sure the GPU is properly seated on the motherboard and that there's no dust on the PCIe connectors of the MB and the GPU.

That being said, I hope your 290X has a really beefy cooler with some headroom, cause the 290X is a pretty hot card in general, even without overclocking...

Yeah, the thing is that WattMan works, and I have reinstalled both programs, so I don t know what to do anymore really. I have the Tri x version of the card and i am pretty experienced in overclocking so I think something is just not ok. I will get the card out and plug it back in to see if that solves anything, even though I have always had 0 results with such fixes

It's pretty obvious that something is wrong here. The question is where the source of this issue is hidden, which could be both hardware and software-related.

Does WattMan show the clock speeds etc? If it does, do other programs like HWinfo or similar read out the clock speeds?

If you can get the clock speeds to show up on any software, the issue is very likely on the software side.

The only software which can show the clocks/ temps live is WattMan. I have tried Sapphire TRIXX, AMD OverDrive, MSI after burner, GPU Z and so on, none of which show anything but N/A.
There is something fishy here, I will try to download some old drivers, see how it goes

MSI Afterburner has both an "inofficial OC mode", have you tried that?

You could also try switching the Low Level Access from User Mode to Kernel Mode.

Apart from that, I unfortunately have no more suggestions to make, so I hope you'll be able to find a solution :(

So, I downloaded some old drivers, installed them, and went back up to newer ones, and because of AMD, it works now, only if I even touch the settings, driver crashes, forcing clocks to lowest speeds and forcing me to reboot.
The more I use it, the more crashes I get, I think I got like 5 blue screens till now, uncountable game crashes and driver crashes, windows update is my last resort
