Hello there,
I'm building a pc for a friend with the following specs:
I5 4460
Asus H81m-k
Seasonic S12II-Bronze 620W
2x4 Gb DDr3 ram of an unknown manufacturer (from previous prebuilt)
Seagate 1TB
When I push the power button, nothing responds. At first I figured it would either be a faulty motherboard or a faulty psu, since I knew for a fact that the case's front pannel wires worked fine previously. The PSU however, had worked in a previous setup as well, the motherboard is new. I decided to take it out and send it back to the store for further examination. But still I was pretty sure that if the Mobo was faulty, at least the cpu fan could start spinning. The green power indicator on the mobo was on, so it had power. Online I looked at compability for the CPU and the motherboard. I found that some drivers from H81 chipsets do not support Haswell Refresh CPU's, which the I5 4460 is. In order for it to work you would need to install an older cpu to later install the newer one AFTER having installed the newer drivers (which IMO is a terrible hassle). I do not own an older CPU to see if this particular thing is in fact causing my power button to not respond, which leads to my question. Now my question is:
If it is the case that this mobo is indeed not compatible, would it cause both the led and the response of the power button of the case to fail? Or should it at least boot and then shut down when it hits a compability issue? I'm realy not sure here, eager to hear your suggestions.
