Using 8x2 RAM with a leftover possibly non-compatible 8x1 stick

I just got a new 8x2 set of ram, I put my old cheap ram that I was using before into the system as well, and the system booted, however, the new ram supports XMP, and I have it turned on, and it also runs at 3200, but the old ram does not. I set the ram speed in the BIOS to 3200 because the speeds on the ram were not showing up properly, will this overheat or damage the older ram that I am using? And can I use XMP with this setup without damaging anything?

When you mix RAM the system will slow down the RAM to the slowest stick in the system. So even if your settings say 3200 they will not be running at 3200.
If you have 2x8GB that should be more than enough for most applications.

But what if I manually set the speed in the BIOS?
