I have an hp pavilion all in one, first I got the error message(boot device not found 3f0). Also I can't get into the setup utility, but I was able to get to diagnostic options, which are very limited and none of that helped. At this point, I put the hard drive in my other pc(desktop) and was able to install windows 10, still no boot device found. Then I thought to put my desktop hard drive into the all in one, in place of the original one, after that I still got the error. I'm wondering if this could be the motherboard instead, because both hard drives seem fine. Any help greatly appreciated.

Solution
I think, you' ll have to reinstall windows in UEFI mode.
Get windows 10 install iso from microsoft and create USB installation media with rufus.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
https://rufus.akeo.ie/
Options to be used with rufus:
  • GPT partitioning scheme for UEFI,
    File system - Fat32.
Put HDD back into HP pavilion,
boot from windows installation media you prepared,
clean hdd using diskpart before installing windows,
install windows.

OK, do you mean getting a picture from the hard drive diagnostic screen? The reason I'm asking is because that's all I can actually get to in the pc.

So if I'm understanding this right - you:
  • took out hdd from HP pavilion,
took out hdd from desktop pc,
put hdd from HP pavilion into desktop pc,
installed windows 10 onto desktop pc (with HP pavilion HDD).
Is that correct?

Windows is installed in legacy/csm mode there.
If HP pavilion is configured to boot in UEFI mode, it will not be able to boot from this HDD.
What boot options are there in HP pavilion? Can you change it to legacy/csm boot?

Yes, you are correct, and I can't get past the error screen to get to the boot options on the hp pavilion. I already tried leaving the cmos battery and the memory stick out for a few minutes and then got a post screen bit still could not get boot options. How else can I get to the boot options?

Those last instructions worked, by being) making a USB with Rufus with the specified file system and bios. I tried to use disk part, and couldn't get to it, but didn't actually have to use it. The hp pavilion went right on to install windows 10, and booted up just fine itself after the installation. Thank you for your help.
