got acer install windows 7 laptop discs can I use them hp vista stationary pc? (My Acer laptop died..Need a new harddrive, but have an old stationary Hp pc with vista )..I have keys to both machines..

Solution
The dead Acer will have an OEM Windows 8 key that is tied to the laptop's motherboard. The HP machine will have an OEM Windows Vista license that is tied to that HP machine's motherboard. If what you have is a Windows 8 install disk, it should work to install Windows 8, but I think you will run into key issues. The Vista key will not work with the Windows 8 install on the HP machine, and you cannot transfer/re use the Windows 8 key from the Acer laptop that died on the HP machine because it's probably an OEM key that is bound to the laptop. They OEM keys are not transferable to completely different computers sorry.
