Hey guys! First time posting, so as the title says, I'm curious about turning my laptop into a desktop. Please be gentle with me, my knowledge with computers is not that good.

Technically, I'll just be adding another monitor, will close the lid of the laptop, and use the external monitor as the main screen.

So my question is,
1. Is this ok?
2. Is this advisable for long hours of use?
3. Will any kind of monitor do?

Thanks for those who will be answering! :)

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong section to post this question.

Can you recommend a good aoc/asus/acer 15-22-ish inch monitor? Also, I'll be using this for light video editing and gaming. Budget isn't much of a concern, just need a good and reliable monitor.

This is my laptop btw: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4?th=1

Thanks for your answers!

There are so many monitors out there, and I don't keep up with them much, so I'm not a good person to recommend one. I've had good luck with Acers....I didn't even know ASUS made monitors, but they make very good stuff. Just make sure whatever you buy is compatible with the video output on your laptop. (VGA to VGA....HDMI to HDMI....DVI to DVI)

Running a laptop with the lid closed sometimes brings a heating issue. You'll just have to monitor it and see.
There is no "Yes it is safe" or "You will never see ant performance issues"

It might, it might not.
Keep an eye on the situation.

As far as Asus and monitors?
The 2 x Asus 24" I have in front of me says that Asus does indeed make very good panels.
