Hi everyone, I am building a 3d rendering machine. I want advice from some fellow 3d artists. 2400 MHZ vs 3200 MHz does it affect rendering speeds and if so by how much? I am not interested in any in game performance or anything like that I just need if for rendering (vray)

Solution
2666 to 3200 is probably less than 5% in all honesty.

Personally I think 2666 at the moment tends to be the sweetspot on price to performance.

Ryzen 1700, I am sticking with my old gtx 1050ti 4gb as I will be using only CPU rendering. The high speed memory is very hard to find here, only availabe are 2400 or 2666 at best. I just wanted to know if rendering times would be noticeable if its below lets say 5% it doesnt really matter since they cost almost twice as much

Thanks a lot! I was trying to figure out is it worth it since all of the internet is about how ryzen needs fast memory and what not, I just need it for one thing and that is cpu vray rendering. I will find some 2x8gb 2666mhz and the mobo will have 2 free slots waiting :)

The big issue with that video is hes running tighter timings at 3200 than he is at 2933.

That makes literally no sense at all.

He's used the same model ram in all tests , the chances are he could have got timings down to cas 13 at 2933 in which case the difference would have been massively reduced.

At 2666 you're going to be running cas 13/14 if you can get decent branded ram .

Youll be at 2933 cas 16 performance type levels.

Crucial ballistix elite or patriot viper would be my personal choices , ive hit 2933 cas 15 with ballistix elite with no issue at all & the viper has the same micron based nand chips.

Agree with Matt, but it also depends on low latency ram pricing over there.

OP, where do you live BTW?

I tried that one too :) but no one has it. The thing with that site is that they list all models and all hardware stores without checking anything so its basically useless. FYI the 2 main distributors for my country has like 3 models and 10 pieces each, prices are way bigger than US too

I asked them already, and as far as I remember I believe it can be ordered and they will have it within days, as for the mobo it has to be ASUS :) (I am working as desktop/laptop repair service etc..) and I can honestly say after 10 years of working experience that MSI mobos are dying way more that ASUS or even GIGABYTE (not talking about AM4 socket bc I have very little experience with those)

The asus prime is fine , its a nice board.
Msi were massively on the ball when it came to bios updates early on with the am4 chipset but everyone else has caught up now.

Its a shame but I'd recommend steering clear of the gigabyte gaming 3 & 5 entirely (& Ive always been a gigabyte man in the past) .

They seem to have an inherent issue if you get a bad bios flash which seems to be common, where the backup bios is also rendered inoperable & you can end up with a complete brick.

The dual bios always worked fine on previous amd/intel chipsets , on am4 it appears to be completely broken .

Asrock pro 4 is a good board too , own it myself , had not a single issue with it & Ive had a ryzen 1700 since release date.

I am kind of thrown off by the complaints of quality in the reviews: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132965
