Is there any way to upgrade my dell inspiron laptop to support an m.2 ssd? I don't want to get rid of my standard 1TB hard drive, and don't want to pay the costly price of a 1 TB 2.5 inch SSD?

You can use an M.2 to SATA adapter like this: https://www.neweggbusiness.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIV0KY3K10171&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleBizMKPL-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleBizMKPL-PC-_-pla-_-Memory+%28USB+Flash+Drive%29-_-9SIV0KY3K10171&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs9zSBRC5ARIsAFMtUXE3_WlR4iT2I3JbenThWjCEJLkVsw9zEZ0Msf2gUsHjPM1uhcaOKs0aAoiYEALw_wcB

However, unless your laptop has two HDD bays (most don't) you'd still have to sacrifice either your HDD or your Optical drive to have somewhere to connect it to. Your motherboard doesn't have any onboard M.2 ports or controller, and you can't exactly upgrade that.

Also, to use an M.2 adapter you'd have to buy an SSD that can operate on SATA lanes. Many of the newer ones are PCIe only and won't operate on SATA at all.

That or rip out the CD/DVD drive and get an adapter and put the HDD in there and the 2.5" SSD in the old HDD slot.
