I'm trying to set up my PC with an intel HD integrated graphics grocessor for dual monitor use. Here's what the specs says about it:
1 x D-Sub port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
* The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.
Maximum shared memory of 1 GB

I have monitor 1 connected (currently) by VGA cable. Its native/max res is 1920 x 1024. Second monitor (which also serves another machine using the HDMI port) is 1680 x 1050 with HDMI, DVI, and VGA input options (I assume more than one of them can be used simultaneously).
It's the D-Sub caveat that I can't quite get a clear grasp of. Also do onboard graphics specs not mention VGA connectivity? Finally, could I keep the monitor hierarchy as I'm planning it, or would I need to reverse them (or will the two resolutions be possible simultaneously--I may well be wrong)?
Great gratitude for any help!

Solution
D-Sub is an Analog signal only.
DVI-I carries both Analog and Digital signals.
DVI-D, HDMI, and DisplayPort are all Digital only.

You cannot go from a digital signal to an analog one with a simple adapter. You need and active digital to analog converter.
