I know this question has been beat to death but looking at all the other posts there is constant mention of the wattage being sufficient but the amperage is not. 42amps was the number thrown around and the power supply that I have has dual 12v+ rails one 23a and the other 20a would this number just be combined to provide sufficient amperage for the system. If so, can I overclock the 770 at all? Power supply in question:

Rest of the system:
ASUS P8Z77-V LX mobo
i7-2600
8gb ddr3
1 Seagate HDD
1 SanDisk SSD
1 disk drive
6 120mm fans

Thanks for the link. I still don't think it would be safe to overclock with that power supply just because of the quality. The wattage isn't my big concern, it's that it's at the bottom of the power supply tier list and not ideal even for non gaming computers, never mind overclocking which will put it under even more strain. I'm not saying it's impossible just I recommend against it and you may kill the power supply or the PC may just crash in games. A couple paths you can take are:

- Buy a lower power graphics card like a 1050 Ti if you haven't bought the graphics card already. It's about 25% slower than a 770 but way lower power usage. You could also try a lower power 900 series card but it's still a gamble. If you are playing...

- Cooler master elite series is one of the worst power supplies you can buy. Please consider another choice especially if you are overclocking.

- I've never used amperage when buying a PSU in my life, I only ever look at wattage. Perhaps amperage is more of an overclockers' consideration. I do about 10-15 PSU installs a month.

If you are playing AAA titles like GTA5 or Tomb Raider then your CPU probably would bottleneck you anyways on anything at or above 1060 GTX.

- Run the 770 GTX (if you already have it) at stock speeds and hope it doesn't crash. If it does the power supply is a piece of garbage and I'd save for another one.

- Wait and get a better PSU

I use this a lot for picking PSU
