Hi to everyone,

I'm new to the PC build, can any of you maybe help me?
I just want to play games with high quality and 144hz. I thought buying a new graphic card (gtx 1080) is enough but figured out that i need much more for that. What do i realy need and what would be a good solution if possible not to expensive? :)

here my PC specs:

i have a HP Z220 Workstation slighty modified in CPU and GPU
Power supply: Delta Dps-400ab-13 619397-001 400w Power Supply
Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard - HP Z220 CMT Workstation
CPU: Intel I7-3770 CPU 3.40 GHz
CPU-Cooler: HP 625257-001 Processor Fan
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti Zotac
RAM: HP standard 8GB RAM
CASE: HP Z220 Workstation standard case
System: Win 10

If you need more information let me know.

Is there any possibilty to have high quality and 144Hz without changing the power supply (wich is the best GPU with 400W)? A friend of mine told me that i probably need to change the power supply and also the motherboard cause the HP Z220 doesnt allow higher power supplies. And what else do i need to change for a better graphic card? And can i keep the HP case?

Hopefully some of you can help me would be very awesome :D
I rly dont know if i should build a new PC or just buy a new workstation (Z420 with gtx 1080) for 1000€

Is a budget of 1000-1200€ to low for a self build PC?

Thanks for reading all this and taking time for me. I'm very grateful for that :)

Wish you all a nice day and best regards,
Manuel

Who said that??? I know it is true that some motherboard can not handle CPU that require more power because power VRM is not build on that motherboard. Motherboard has nothing to do with power supply. You get...
To be honest your looking at building a whole new pc. As your friend has pointed the problem with PC's from places like HP is they often use non standard formats which makes upgrade difficult to the point where it costs the same as building new. You may not even be able to reuse the case if it uses non standard motherboard mounting holes. 400w is not enough for a high end performance gpu and again being from HP in reality it may not actually provide the power you would expect from a good quality psu. Finally your Windows licence is tied to the HP motherboard so you will even need a new license.

Does this budget include monitor or do you already have a 144Hz monitor? If you do what resolution is it?

I think this is your current power supply. If it looks like this then it is a standard PS. If you build new PC, you still need to get better PS, so why not get a good quality one and put in your current PC to verify it. If PS works out, you then can try to get GTX1080.

Wow thanks for the fast answer :) Yeah probably i need to change everything if i want a high end performance. I already have the 144Hz Monitor it's the Acer xf240h Monitor. And i'm happy with 1080p resolution. Important would be the 144Hz and nice graphics at least everything on high, ultra would be awesome. I just saw a post where someone asked for the best graphic card for a Z220 with 400W and the answer was the 1050 Ti. Do i get 144Hz at 1080p with high settings? Or still better Building a new one? And what would i need for a new one?

thanks a lot again for answering :D

If you could sell yours for about 400 bucks you could build a better work and gaming PC.
The i7 3770 compaired i5 8600K
