My ram is using 30-40% usage on idle, I have 8gb of ram and it uses 3gb on idle

Ram: G skill V 3200mhz 2x4gb
I don't have any programs running except discord and steam and nothing else
when I run pubg and rust it takes up 90% and I'm starting to get lag spikes even though I never got them like yesterday
any ideas?

If a program has a memory leak it won't release after it's closed. Did you try restarting it?

Have you checked task manager > processes > show processes from all users > sort by memory high to low? what are the top few items eating your memory? Could be a service or something you could disable. **shrugs shoulders**

Yeah, I checked. The only one that seems to be taking up lots of memory is Google Chrome. Even when that is closed 30-40% is still taken up. The rest of the applications are like 1-50 mb's

well... windows at idle (I'm guessing you're on win 10) will typically use between 1.5 and 2.5 gb ram. That does fall somewhat in the range of usage you mention.. maybe a bit on the high end. Not sure what to suggest other than throwing $100 at 2 more sticks of ram to get you to 16gb (assuming you have 4 slots on your mobo). Sorry I don't have a good answer for you.

Estimable
- Your idle RAM usage seems normal. You can try using resource monitor or task manager to find applications as well as processes that are taking up RAM and evaluate if you are able to do without them. Processes are programs that don't have a Window and you can't "see". Do you see anything taking up large amounts of RAM?

- For PUBG, a 2x8GB RAM kit is strongly recommended. Due to its optimization, the game uses large amounts of RAM. I recommend against buying RAM to add to yours as this can cause stability issues with the existing RAM. It should always be purchased in a kit and I have personally seen the negative effects of RAM mixing and matching.
