So after putting my pc together (not my first build) with the following components:

Asus Prime H270-Plus Intel LGA1151 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i3 7100
Corsair Value Select CMV4GX4M1A2400C16 4GB (1x4GB) DDR4 (x2)
Kingston SSDNow A400 120GB SSD
Windows 10 64bit OS

I am unable to get any display whilst connecting either an HDMI cable or VGA cable from the motherboard (integrated graphics) to my 21 inch Samsung monitor - just a black screen. The only way I can get any visual display on the monitor is by connecting my gtx 1080ti to the board, and then running HDMI off that. Kind of defeats the purpose because if I didn't have a dedicated GPU, how would I even see what is happening?

So after loading into Windows using my dedicated GPU, I can confirm that my CPU has Intel Hd Graphics 630 because it shows up in the device manager under display adapters (along with the Nvidia card). I have since updated the drivers - HDMI from the motherboard directly to my monitor still does not work, however, VGA cable does work - but only once we are into windows. I cannot see the Asus logo, or options to get into the BIOS.

So the only way I can access the BIOS is by HDMI connection using my dedicated GPU. I have fiddled with the settings there too - 'Advanced' menu > System Agent (SA) Configuration\Graphics Configuration > iGPU Multi-Monitor setting > Enable Press the 'F10' key to save and exit.

I also changed the primary display to CPU only, but that just results in me having to reset the BIOS via shorting the jumpers, as I lose display on my monitor once that has been enabled.

None of this has worked. I would like to think my motherboard requires an RMA, but everything else works, and VGA connection works, but only in Windows - cannot see option to enter BIOS nor see Asus logo on startup.

It is not a major issue, because I have a dedicated GPU, but if something requires fixing, and it is under warranty, why not? Can anyone chime in?

That is bizarre. If it is a dedicated GPU system, I'd just install a GPU and forget about Intel HD if this was my own machine.

I'd try a BIOS update and see if that helps.

I'd honestly RMA the motherboard if this was a PC for a client, wouldn't want to risk other things deciding to quit down the road. Warranties don't last forever sadly. I'd go as far as trying another 1151-1 processor just to be sure and check the socket for bent pins.

If your on board video isn't working with different cables, displays, or cable types, iGPU BIOS configs then motherboard has a problem that can't really be repaired.

Thanks for the response. Yes the BIOS is up to date - in fact, there was one update that was release 1-2 days ago, so that's been done. If any of the pins on the motherboard were bent, could it still load into Windows and do everything else? Because apart from the display not appearing with HDMI, everything is ok. Only VGA seems to work - and even then, only when the windows login screen boots up. There is no display to allow me to get into the BIOS.

HDMI cable is fine, as it works from dedicated GPU to monitor.

I'm torn between just living with it (as you say, I do have a dedicated GPU which can bypass the problem) or RMA the motherboard and deal with the downtime, which could be days to weeks.

Google tells me that there are numerous cases out there that have a similar issue (HDMI output not working with integrated graphics), but no one seems to have a solution. And those that have RMA'ed, well, the same thing has happened. Makes me believe it could be an inherent problem with some series of motherboards. I also read that it could be a HDCP issue?

- Pins in the CPU socket? That generally will stop a PC from POSTing in my experience. Other pins like headers aren't as critical unless they are touching the board or other pins.

- It could have something do to with HDCP as VGA doesn't utilize it at all unlike HDMI. You still should be able to see BIOS and all of that with VGA or HDMI or anything. That makes me think there is something wrong with the board. HDCP is generally more of an issue inside Windows though, it shoudn't stop you from seeing BIOS and I don't think I've ever seen HDCP settings in BIOS.

The onboard HDMI is supposed to work out of the box especially if it's just BIOS. I don't like when motherboards don't do what they are advertised to do even if the features are unused. There is lots of ridiculous Windows-based workarounds but if you have no video signal at all in BIOS that to me feels like a motherboard issue if you are sure iGPU and all that is set correctly in BIOS.

I'd just ignore it if you are using dedicated. The VGA works so it could just be a duff port on the motherboard. If the entire motherboard suddenly dies which is unlikely I'd just take it on the nose and swap it out. If it's your own system waiting for an RMA sucks especially if the RMA doesn't solve the issue and they send you another board with the same issue or same design flaw.

Yeah, this. That's why I'm uncertain whether to send it back or not.

Anyway, don't think the CPU pins are bent - like I said, everything boots up ok into Windows and I can carry on with whatever I need to do. Thanks though.

If anyone has any idea what this could be, that would be appreciated.
