On default on AM4 systems, any RAM you get will default to that speed. You can't really overclock much beyond that. I would just run it at XMP and be done with it. Running it over that would lead to some serious system instability.

On AM4 though the faster the speeds the better, I would get at minimum DDR4-3000, which is what I run on my rig. But even with the most basic Ryzen processor, you want that speed or better, especially if you plan to overclock.
