I'm looking to buy an aftermarket Air or maybe watercooler for my Ryzen 1300X machine, and im trying to squeeze a little more power from it. I want to go say 3.8 - 4GHz. What cooler should i get that is both effective and cheap?

Look up the word Silicone Lottery

Some CPU`s you can overclock very far without going overboard on the volts. Some CPU`s if you even try to go for a +100Mhz it will crash no matter what volts you hammer it with.

Buying a CPU for overclocking is kinda like a lottery. You win and you loose.

Take my CPU. the i7 7700k.
I have seen people not being able to get it running stable at 4.8Ghz (Stock is 4.5Ghz) so they truly have lost the silicone lottery. Mine freezes around 5.15 - 5.2 depending on what load I am putting on it. But 5.1Ghz I can run 24/7 without problem. And that is a win.

I have the wraith stealth which is waaaaay too tiny for my comfort level even for a 3.5GHz CPU. I don't know my temps under full synthetic load but ill soon throw a stress test over my system for 12 hours to see if it's stable enough

my GPU is heavily overclocked though; from 1400 ish megahertz to 1848MHz core clock. that's why i actually want a watercooling loop for both my CPU and GPU. but i don't know, i dont have money for watercooling, let alone the skill to make a custom loop. I think ill try out the H7, i found a guy that has the AM4 upgrade kit for it, he's willing to sell it along with the cooler itself.

My motherboard can get my CPU to 3.7GHz with something called "game boost". Ill try this out on my wraith stealth and then get a custom overclock to say 4GHz on the H7.

Maybe i don't have money for a r5 1400. I just want to slap a decent overclock on what i currently have until i get an 1800X. Also, the H7 is one giant hunk of aluminium fins and you're telling me the Wraith stealth can do 3.7 but the H7 can't do 4GHz? That seems a little odd, knowing that the H7 is like a million times bigger...

^ you're misunderstanding what vapour is saying .

What he means is that not all ryzen chips will go past 3.8ghz irregardless of cooler withput abstupid amount of voltage.

Which is not worth the minimal benefit.

The stealth spire is easily capable of doing 3.8ghz on a straight ryzen 3 quad - they are low voltage & very efficient cpu's.

The stealth is only 5c or so behind the full size spire on absolute temps , the only downside is you need to run the fan faster which means more noise.

what do you mean with "Not all ryzen chips will go past 3.8GHz"; i thought all ryzen CPU's are unlocked and overclockable.

The point i was trying to make is that i need a solid effective overclock on my 1300X WITHOUT the stock cooler, and i'm not only looking for acceptable temps, but also low noise levels.

Sorry if i sound like a d*ck but i don't get it anymore. I'm just trying to squeeze a little more life out of my 1300X.
