So.. I can't seem to get my pc to post unless the ram is in the a1 & a2 slots on my motherboard.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the default configuration should be a1 & b1, right?

I'm running a 16gb 2x8 setup.

Speccy & Corsair Link only recognize it as a single channel kit & I understand WHY...

But, they both also claim I still have 16gb oh usable ram.

I've tried putting them in almost every config I can think of & it won't post unless configured that specific way.

To help out as much as I can, I'm going to list a few parts for you.

Motherboard: ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (WI-FI AC) (LGA1151)

CPU: Intel Core i5 8600k Coffee Lake

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666Mhz

The main reason I've only listed those parts is because in any amount of research I've done, the motherboard, CPU, & RAM are the 3 main components mentioned with this issue.

I mean, as long as the system is aware that 16GB is what I have to work with, I don't see a huge issue. That being said, I don't know that I've ever seen a dual channel kit setup as a single channel. It's both confusing & quite annoying.

One last thing:
I took both sticks out & popped them into my friend's board to test them & they both work & were recognized just fine when setup normally in a dual channel config.

Really hoping my motherboard isn't defective as I just built the pc last Sunday [1/7/18]
I've seen some stuff about resetting the BIOS &/or updating it...But I've never done that before & have no knowledge of how to go about it.
My current bios version is as follows:
Version 0505
Date 10/11/2017

Thank you to anyone who made it this far. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
It could be related to a bent pin in the CPU socket. Try loosening a bit the cpu cooler. If still the same, try removing the CPU and posting here a picture of the CPU socket.
