My home built PC suddenly turned off a couple of days ago (after years of no problems) and now will not power on if everything is plugged in. I believe that either the processor is dead or the 8-pin CPU power plug on the motherboard is malfunctioning.

TESTING SO FAR:
-I've done testing with two PSU's and another PC-- the power supply is not to blame.
-I reset the CMOS battery and swapped it for a new one--nothing is different there.
-Power button is also confirmed working.
-Swapped the RAM around, nothing there either.

During the PSU testing, I plugged a single case fan and the main power connector into the motherboard, then hit the power button. Both the PSU and the case fan spun up. I then added the 8-pin CPU cable from the PSU, hit the power button, and nothing happened. When I removed the CPU cable, the fans all spun up again. I tried this with two PSU's and had the same results.

Does that mean my processor is dead or is it possible the female end of the CPU plug on the motherboard just shorted out? Is it time to go see some computer repair guy to test the MoBo?
