Cooling Issue with Corsair H60

Okay so I just bought a Corsair H60 to be used as my new CPU cooler and fitted it today everything was going fine until I booted the PC and saw that temps were a lot higher than they should be (50C on desktop, 100C full load on CS:GO, stock i7-4790k no overclock). I'm also getting really bad stuttering in-game which makes it almost unplayable, probably due to the high heat and throttling I would have thought.

I don't see what I've done wrong apart from the fact I had only screwed down 3 corners of the bracket as I didn't have a 4th screw that was long enough to be able to be screwed down properly.
However I don't think this would make much difference if I did have a 4th, it seems really tight already?

Any help appreciated, thanks

Yeah I'll get one have to look up what it's called and that.
The CPU pump is in CPU Fan slot and the actual radiator fan is in SYS FAN 1 on my motherboard, this is alright, right?
And yeah I put my own arctic thermal paste on or whatever it's called as well as the one that came pre applied on the cooler

Dumb question ?? Did you remove any protective film from the bottom of the cooler head?

Your temperatures should be 10-15c. over ambient at idle.

Almost certainly using only three of the screws is your problem.
The clamping will have been done unevenly.
See if you can find a suitable 4th screw at a local hardware store, or order one from Corsair.
Screwing such things down needs to be done a bit at a time and on diagonal corners.

Also, do not use too much paste or it will act as an insulator.
Adding over the pre-applied is a mistake.
Clean it all off and start over.
Use 90% alcohol and a paper coffee filter to clean old paste off.
A small rice sized drop in the center will spread under heat and pressure.
It is hard to use too little.

Yes and I put my own on as well in just an x shape. Fans are spinning, I turned them up to max in mobo but not much change. No, I connected it to the CPU Fan slot on my mobo, never heard of stuff being able to connect to PSU is that wehre I went wrong?

AIO coolers I have used all connect to the PSU. Let me check your user manual, one sec...

Also, you said above you used the pre-applied thermal paste PLUS you added your own? Is that right?

Right I'll order a new screw see which one it is.
I might have used to much paste maybe, I did an X shape on it but it also came with some pre-applied

Holy..... That is WAY to mutch thermal paste buddy!

Remove all thermal paste and put a small drop the size of a rice grain in the middle of the CPU. That is enough.

And just be carefull not to smear the thermal paste all over since it is electrical conductive.

My bad, Checked your user manual, and that model gets enough power from the fan header it looks like.

But if you applied paste AND used the pre-applied, you'll need to clean it all off and start again. You don't want both types on there. Just use a pea sized drop of paste in the center. It'll spread out on it's own.

Okay so shall I just clean the paste off and leave it then seeing as it's pre-applied? Or put on my own tiny dot aswell?

I'd probably remove everything and use your own paste. Use Geo's instructions below.

Alright thanks both, I'll try this tomorrow and get back to you, I've also opened a support ticket on Corsair's site asking if there was anyway of getting the screw I need because I don't feel like paying £15 for the whole mounting kit when I only need one screw lol:D

Okay so I’m 90% sure it’s the screws, I’ve basically eliminated everything else it could be apart from a faulty cooler which I doubt.
While reapplying the thermal paste today I broke one of the screws when tightening it and temperatures (to no surprise) increased dramatically, not sure how it still boots lol.
I’ve messaged Corsair customer support and they seem pretty good with this stuff so there sending out spare sets of screws and stuff to me.
I’ll update the answer when I finally get all 4 screws in.
