Can Win 7 Pro or Ultimate work with a Threadripper based system?

I have heard both yes and no to this question so I am asking here as well.

Solution
- No motherboard drivers for Windows 7 aside from generic drivers like Realtek.

- There are no chipset drivers for Windows 7 on AM4/TR4 platform

- No Windows updates for Windows 7. You get instantly blocked from Windows Update when it detects you are running a newer CPU.

- USB may not work as the chipset doesn't support USB 3. You may notice during the install your USB stops working and you are forced to used a USB keyboard or use USB driver injection trips/tools.

Ryzen/Threadripper setup sucks on Windows 7. It works but it can be a real headache to get it set up and running. Windows 10 would make your life easier.

The question is more like why would you run Win7 on a Threadripper? You still have a few days to get the upgrade free (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade). Frankly, if your reason to stay with Win7 is older game compatibility, I'd think about either dual-boot (recommended) or running a virtual machine inside Win10 (more trouble than it's worth).

There is no reason you cannot run Win7 on Ryzen/Threadripper, but you will eventually run into compatibility and driver issues.

The Jan 7, 2018 4:57 AM post on https://community.amd.com/thread/222524 (near the bottom) clearly says the PCIe 3.0 setting within BIOS has to be changed from auto to 2.0. Windows 7 is completely unaware of the 3.0 PCIe standard. After manually setting it to the older version, user shawn156 says that both ASRock and Gigabyte X399 boards are stable and do not have a BSOD.
