Hello people, I have realy annoying problem. First i`ll give machine info. Keep in mind below i will refer to the different machines as PC1 and PC2

PC1 - Windows XP SP3
PC2 - Windows 10

So Recently i changed few computers in our company. Im talking about 2 separate objects with same issue. At the first one I have HP LJ 1015 connected to PC1 and shared on the network. On PC2 i could connect to that printer by only 1 method: New local port->port name being the path to the printer and it worked. However PC2 updated 2 times in the past 2 days and both times it lost connection to the printer. First time i fixed it by trial and error and ended up reinstalling completely. Second time (today) i fixed by turning off printer, restarting PC2 and turning on printer. Any idea if there is better method to connect them and not have issues?

Solution
I would guess the windows 10 update was a really big update. Microsoft has killed SMB (Server Message Blocks) in their latest update (1607 I think, maybe 1709). This was an older way to share resources, but someone found an exploit, so they killed it. If PC1 is the first (or only) PC to turn on, it will be the master browser of the network and then it can see PC2. If PC2 comes on before PC1 then the share does not work.

For me, the solution would be a IP print server ... HP makes some expensive ones (jetdirect) ... IO Gear and TP Link make some less expensive ones. I have installed the HP ones for clients many years ago and they worked fine. I don't have personal experience with the others.

@anotherdrew The update was the Fall upgrade or something like that. Im not familiar with that IP print server but i guess i have to make PC1 to act as "network adapter and IP" for the printer and somehow redirect print jobs given to the IP to the printer itself

@nigelivey The printer is realy old and do not have network connection. It can be connected only to a computer.

I noticed that the printer came out on PC2 as Offline so i only had to click "use online" and it worked fine again. I will look into that IP print server thingy. Thanks for the suggestions
