NH D14 or Adding to loop

Hey!

Built a custom waterloop this christmas, with a XT360 EK Radiator, a DDC310 Alphacool pump and a EK waterblock for my vega 64 card. CPU is however being aircooled, via my old NH D14 cooler. Will a EK Supremacy EVO Nickel Plexi give better performance than the NH D14; if connected in series after the gpu/parallell with the gpu (going to try both)?

The CPU is a 4790k.

Cheers

What are you trying to accomplish?
What are your load temperatures now?
Is noise or cost an issue?

NH-D14 is an outstanding, if large cooler.
In a case with good airflow, I expect that adding liquid cooling for your cpu might let you gain another multiplier out of your overclock.

My thought is that money is better spent on faster parts in the first place like 8th gen processors,
than on liquid cooling solutions.

Money is ofcourse a factor, but the thing is, I already have a beast watercooling system. So basically just adding onto my previous system, with a cpu cooler. If it performs better than the NH D14, despite sharing loop with the GPU, I'll use waterblock for the CPU as well.

OP already has a NH-D14 and wants to spend some $75 more for a cpu waterblock.

4790K can run hot if needed. The slow down/throttle point is around 100c.
Increasing the overclock will increase the temperature, but at the cost of a higher vcore that can be damaging to the cu.

Reducing temperatures is nice, but why is it needed?
Tapping into an already good liquid loop is a reasonable thing to do.
But, what do you get for your extra $75?

A better looking piece of furniture in my room? ;)
*100$ on RGB lighting; or 100$ on watercooling. As long as the performance isn't worse (slightly better would be good), I'm willing to drop that money on it :)

Cheers

"bling" is not my thing.
But if you like it, go for it.
Your cpu cooling should not suffer.
Possibly your radiator fans will need to work a bit harder and make more noise.

Yeah; but I also get to cut the cpu fan :) (Which is currently 1700RPM during gaming; vs the 3x 1000RPM for the radiator).

As long as the temps don't suffer, I'll go ahead and install the cooler :)

Thanks for all the help!

(If anybody else has a different opinion, feel free to lemme know. Waterblock going in this weekend otherwise ;) )

Ps. D14 goes into old PC as well, which is currently running a AMD FX 6300 stock cooler (terrrriiibbbbllleeee temps)
