GTX 1060 - Struggling with Multiple Monitor Setup

I just built my first computer with MSI z270 M6 motherboard and MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6gb GPU.

I am struggling with getting multiple monitor setup to work and would love to hear thoughts from the community. I have tried most of the ideas from others on the board and internet - unplug, , etc but can not get it to work.

Here is the situation.

I have 2 same monitors (Asus PA248Q) - they each have Display Port (DP) and HDMI

Graphics card has 3 DP and 1 HDMI in the order (DP1 DP2 HDMI DP3). My DP3 seems to be working and I have my first monitor connected to that. I can not connect my second monitor to the other two DPs (DP1 or DP2). I can connect my second monitor using HDMI port and it works but I can not get it to work with remaining 2 DPs. If I plug cable into DP1 or DP2, monitor power lights on but it says DisplayPort no signal.

The reason I don't think its wire issue is because if I take my 1st monitor out of DP3 and try plugging into DP1 or DP2 - again says no signal.

Now I know I can ofcourse use HDMI as my 2nd port for now - but I want to make sure all ports are working so I can add additional monitors. And also since I just bought the GPU few days ago - I can try and get it replaced from the retailer (Newegg) rather than have MSI repair it or send refurbished.

I will appreciate any help I can get on this.

One other thing I am thinking is that my Graphics card is not working and I am just using integrated card. The reason I think that is because my motherboard has DP and HDMI port and they work (same 2 that work on my GPU).

So the question is - if I have GPU connected and monitor plugged in to GPU - is it using GPU or integrated card? Can it use integrated card even if I don't have anything plugged directly to mobo.

I've had a issue were my DP stopped working but other connections did work. My fix was to unplug the monitors and the system for a few min including the power cables and then plug everything back in and it should work. All of your monitors should be plugged into the 1060.

Thanks for your response.

I have done this numerous time but to no avail.

All my monitors are plugged into GPU...I was just wondering if it could be bypassing GPU and just using integrated graphics even though I have monitors plugged into GPU.

Thanks!

In the BIOS I have PEG and then multiple monitors enabled.

How do I make sure that the actual DP connectors on my graphics card are not junk? Is there a way to test them?

I have tried couple of DP cables that came with these monitors - If I take out the working monitor from DP3 and plug it into any other DP - it does not work. So cable is fine and monitor is fine as it is working on DP3 - but when plugged into DP1 or DP2 it does not. At this point I am also thinking it has to be the card.

I have also not really played any games on this yet as just trying to set it. Fans haven't come on on the GPU - ofcourse I haven't pushed it yet. Is there a way to push GPU to its limit to see if it works and fans come on to cool it.

So this is really driving me nuts. I have even tried a 2nd GPU (same model) and still same issue. Make me think that it might be something other than GPU - settings, maybe MoBo?

Just to rehash my monitors have DP and GPU has DP. 2 DPs that are together don't work. I can connect with HDMI and the DP next to it. First 2 DPs - no signal and not recognized in Nvidia settings.

Oh and I have also tried new Vesa compliant DP cable

This is just hilarious.

So at this point I have swapped out a new GPU for a second new GPU (same model - MSI 1060 6gb)

No Go!

Then I swapped out MSI m6 mobo for Asus Z270E mobo

Still exact same problem.

At this point I am thinking its some setting OR its something thats just wrong with all MSI 1060 6gb

Just to retell the issue

DP1 and DP2 dont work.

HDMI and DP3 work

"Add additional monitors"? Beyond the two you're trying to get hooked up? Sorry, but at 1920x1200 x 2, you're already pushing 3840x1200 (4,608,000 pixels)- 1 million more pixels than 2560x1440p. The 1060 is the seventh down the current lineup and is not really recommended for 1440p, let alone what you're running:

Titan XP>1080 Ti>1080>1070 Ti>1070>1060Ti>1060 6GB

You've already hit that card's limit with two monitors, so personally I would use the HDMI/DP combo and make no plans to add any more.

Thanks for your response.

I will try and see if it works if i lower the resolution.

I am not a big gamer - once in a while. Mostly use it for work but 1060 is fairly disappointing if thats the case as my 5 year old laptop with integrated intel graphics card powered 2 display ports at that resolution. Maybe I am missing something here.

I should have mentioned that my comments really apply to gamers. You can certainly try it, but going by the math you are already beyond a 16:9 1440p monitor pixel-wise, so you may need to lower settings when gaming. Since you just bought it, I would exchange it if you want to use more than one DP. It's a pain, but if a card is going to have a problem, at least this is the best time for it to occur.

Specs say...

DIGITAL MAXIMUM RESOLUTION 7680 x 4320

I am sure if i was doing graphics heavy activity it will lag...but it should atleast come on.

Nvidia control center doesn't see the monitors at all.

Oh sure- it can do very high resolution for normal stuff life surfing and common work applications. It's just that in reviews on the 1060 at 1440p it could only average in the mid thirties in some games like Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, so adding another 25% pixels (your set up) might not be playable on some games. Of course, you could always just use one monitor in those cases. But as you said, you don't game too often.

Anyway, good luck. Hopefully Newegg will be quick about it if you go the exchange route.
