Computer locks up/freezes RANDOMLY, not a crash.

Computer locks up/freezes, doesn't crash.

The image freezes and the audio just continues making it's current sound forever. This may have started with a virus from a torrent I got a while ago, but I have since deleted it and I always have AVG running. I also for a time thought that a driver could be a problem so I got DriverSupport but the problem continued still. This locking up/freezing happens at random times, there is likely no connection. Sometimes I boot up the computer and leave it at the screen before logging in and HDMI stops getting signal. Sometimes it happens when I scroll the internet, or play a game or watch a video. And there is no set amount of time before it freezes, it just decides on it's own. Please any possible solution would be much appreciated. We think two of our best options are pick and choose the most likely parts causing the problems or just get a new computer. Also if you do provide a solution you may have to seriously dumb it down for me, I am not the most techwise person.

If you need specs on certain parts you may need to tell me how I find those....

I am looking at other posts too to see if there is a common cure for this

Ok we finally figured it out. I took it to my dad because he invited me over, after several crashes he decided to look IN the tower, and he found that the big chipset on the motherboard was hot, and he saw that one of the fans was broken. He replaced that fan and decided to clean all of the parts (he also had me get him some thermal paste for something involving the heat sink), he also had the fan on the too aimed inward and the fans on the back and bottom both aimed outward, so now that chipset doesn't overheat. And NOW, the computer doesn't crash. Or if it does, it's not going to be for a while, because I had it on all night to update it and it never crashed.

I can't figure out how to download memtest onto my computer, so I ran mdsched and got no errors. Next up....
Overclocking the CPU. How do I do that? I googled the solution and it said to get prime95, cool temp, easy. Then later I had to run prime95 and restart computer then boot up the bios. That I could not figure out. It said to hit a key to get into that but I couldn't figure it out so I have given that option up.

Now for the MSI afterburner
It looks like it only displays things... What should I have displayed?

Sorry it took me so long to get back. I work 12 hr shifts and I try to only work, sleep and eat a bit those days.

Also I do apologize if this info isn't exactly what u want to know, I don't have much knowledge and I'm trying the best I can.

Motherboard: Make: MSI, Model: MS-7693A

Oh and there's a freeze!
Ram: [I guess that's a number] 7.95gb
Cpu: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor 3.50 GHz
Video Card: That's "display" right? It's AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Power Supply: EVGA 600W

Also this is a custom built computer, built back in 2015 I think. Built by my dad, I'm gonna be making my first one when I get the money to get parts for my next computer

I never assumed you where a kid, nor mentioned anything about your age. :)

1. motherboard you told me MS-7693A, could you peek inside the case and maybe Identify if your board is ;
MSI 970A-G43, MSI 970A-G45, or MSI 970A-G46 as the number you gave me came in three flavors.

2. Have you tried to use DDU in Safe mode, and remove the video drivers, and install a fresh copy of the AM HD 7700 Drivers ?

3. The power supply should be fine, if it was the problem it would be related to the video card at the same time, (i.e. not providing the power properly to the video card (HD 7700), this can only be tested by replacing the power supply to make sure the problem goes away.)

4. do you have another video card you could substitute for your HD 7700 to test it isn't the video card (i.e. run another video card and if it freezes again then its not the video card) (always turn off pc when taking and installing hardware in the computer)

5. what version of windows are you using ? Windows Xp, Windows 7 windows 10 ?

I realize your computer knowledge is limited and if any or all of the above seems a bit over what you believe you can do, then I suggest to take it to a shop. But if your up to a couple of test done yourself I can walk you through most through messages here. just ask away I am willing to help.

DDU can be downloaded from https://www.wagnardsoft.com/DDU/download/DDU%20v17.0.8.2.exe

Sorry about the kid thung, i have a bad habit of assuming what someone thinks.
I think the issue is the CPU overheating. I ran MSI afterburner and had a stop watch going on my computer and it was always at a steady 40ish°C. The computer is 3 to 4 years old, it's probly time to get a new one. The solution may be to replace the cpu, which probly involves replacing more parts, and at that point there's no reason to save the conputer.

run HWINFO and confirm your max cpu temp and while your at it GPU temp (run HWINFO in sensor mode) if over 85c then yes IO agree its overheating, but replacing the cpu is not usual what you do when it overheats, your a) clean the heatsink, check speed of cpu/gpu fans, and replace the heatsink past between cpu/gpu and heatsink and test again. its really not "worth replacing a cpu because of possible overheating lol (not that your FX series CPU cannot easily be replaced by a Ryzen for little and be kicking its butt all over the place)
