Hello,

I am studying an I.T course (computer stuff, I dont know the exact translation) and today we were at the network class and someone asked the teacher: "If a HUB (with 4 computers connected) receives a message from PC 1 and wants to send it to PC 4, the PC 2 and 3 will get it and discard it, but what if the PC 4 is offline? Will it store the message and send it later?"

I'm not sure if I'm right but I think if PC 4 is offline and didn't get the message from PC 1, when PC 4 came back online, it shouldn't get any message since it's been lost.

I tried to look on the web for answers but found nothing... Can someone please help me? I really need to know this.

Thanks!

If 4 PC's are connected to what is indeed a Hub and not a switch the data from PC1 will reach PC2 and PC3 and they will discard it you are correct. If PC4 is offline that data is then lost/ transmission is incomplete and will not get that data when the PC4 comes back online.

If it was a switch only PC4 would receive the data but the same rules would apply if it was offline
