Dear Forum.
Hoping someone can provide me with some insight.
I'm considering buying the Octane IV laptop from PC Specialist (see link below). I'd be looking at getting it with the i7 8700K, 1070 GPU and 64GB of RAM. This will be used for various CAD software on large projects.

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/octaneIV-15/

I'm hesitating though as I see on the "leaked" Intel Roadmap for 2018 (such as here http://www.legitreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/4a57d565f5e9417ba5d4bbfdfc0b25a7.jpg ) it seems to be showing different/new Coffee Lake S 6 core 95W processors being released in Q1.

Is it likely that those new processors will be fitting the same 'need' as the i7 8700K? Seems very strange that they would be as it seems the i7 8700K was just released the last couple of months.

If it was just going to be a case of waiting a couple of months for a newer processor that was going to provide improved IPC/Turbo boost/Sustained Turbo or such I would wait. I'm not nearly as concerned with whether it has additional USB/Thunderbolt type options as I don't really connect much to my computer, it's really processor power and RAM that would be driving my decisions.

Any insight would be very much appreciated.

I really don't think they will release so soon after the 8000 series. If they do, performance/$ will be about the same, so won't really make a difference what you get. Unless of course you want every ounce of power.
The new series might take longer to make it to laptops.

Other thoughts...
-An 8700K in a laptop???? wtFFFF!?
-Typical Battery Life: 130 minutes, and ~3.4kg. It's hardly mobile, do you need the portability?
I wouldn't call my (gutless) laptop light, but this is 4x heavier with 1/5th the battery life.

Thanks very much for your response mrmez!
I'm thinking the same regarding the Q1 processors unlikely to offer much improvement being that it would be so close to the release of the i7 8700K. TBH I'm surprised they are anticipating releasing 95W 6 core S processors at all in the next year since the 8700K was just released.
As for the poor battery life and the weight of the laptop I'm looking at, if I can get it on a plane I'm not so concerned as once I get to my destinations it will remain on a single desk for several months at a time without moving. If they'd let me bring a full on desktop onto the plane I'd be going that route as the performance is what I'd be most concerned with.
