Are 2 8 to 8 pins better than 1 8 to dual 8 pins connectors?

I have SLI video cards that both require two 8 pins connections. I am currently using four cables to power them (4x 8 to 8 pin). will i have any drawbacks if i switch to two dual 8 pins cables? i'm asking because i plan on buying custom cable soon.

Yes - there will be a drawback. Those cables will heat up more.
With aggressive overclock result could be even something like this:
