PC freezes then unfreezes randomly

So recently my gaming PC has been freezing, staying frozen for 30 seconds to a minute, then unfreezing and playing with no problems (the keyboard still receives inputs during the whole time) This happens while playing games and while simply browsing chrome. It has nothing to do with my PC being able to handle the game, because it's able to play recent games on high settings. Any ideas what the problem could be?

My specs :
os windows 10 64bit
cpu ryzen 3 1200
mobo gigabyte ab350m gaming 3
gpu msi gtx 970 g1 gaming 4g
ram ripjaws V 2x8gb ddr4 2400
hdd wd blue 1tb
ssd crucial bx300 240gb
psu corsair tx650m
screen benq gw2406z

First thing that pops to my head is drivers. Check that your graphics card drivers are up to date. Also check your cables are secured into your displays and graphics card properly.

I always recommend that people open up their resource monitor (crtl+shift+esc) and watch what process is draining the most of their systems cpu, gpu or whatever. Something might be causing your system to hang while it's using up all your resources.
How recently has this started? Did you update or install anything?

Yes at first I thought it was the drivers too, and i updated the gpu's drivers, still no change.
Whenever I opened the resource monitor, I've seen only a normal usage (like chrome eating up a lot of ram and cpu, etc.) but I've never opened it when the computer freezes, I'll try next time.
It's started since day 1. I've updated every windows updates ever since and installed basic softwares (Ms Office, chrome, vlc, avira, etc.) and some games of course, but other than that, nothing unusual..

system hang can be cause by lots of things (usually cpu issues). but the black screens is leading me to believe graphics card. try a back up card or your onboard graphics to see if it still occurs.

I may lost you in my explanations but I've never had black screens. yes I'm starting to think it's a cpu problem too, how can I check?

My bad. "screen freeze" had me thinking black screen too.

The easiest way to see what is draining cpu resources is to open up your resource monitor (crtl+shift+esc) > processes and sort by CPU usage. If your system freezes like clockwork. just keep an eye on it or maybe even start a screen record with OBS. If your pc accepts key strokes during system hang it might still screen cap.

Most processes that drain high amounts of cpu use take a few moments to get to there max usage. Like DCOM service process launcher. It's always running, but can peak at 30-40% cpu usage.

Good luck,
Harrison
