Hi!

I have an i7 7700k and a Water 3.0 Performer C as my cooler. I have not overclocked my processor, but under load it runs about 90 degrees celcius, which is hot.
I would like to point out that my rig was pre-built.
Thanks!

1. 7700K tends to run hot.
2. even if you have not done any overclocking, the person/company that built it could do some. moreover, there are some motherboards that by default do some things like multi core enhancement that use absurdly high voltage for the CPU.
3. the presence of "water"/"liquid" in the name of cooler does not mean it's any good. in fact, a 120mm AiO is very poor when it comes to cooling and noise. Typically, a half decent air cooler will do better cooling at lower noise than most 240 AiOs.

If you want to solve it do one or more of the following:
1. go through BIOS settings and make sure they are reasonable.
2. delid the CPU.
3. place the radiator as intake.
4. get a better cooler.

Thanks, this cleared things up. It’s great when there is people like you!

You are welcome.
Please note, you do need to fix this 90C load temperature. it's too high.
I forgot to mention that making sure that the case have decent airflow might also solve the problem. to test it, simply open the side panel - if temperature drops, adding couple of fans to the case, may solve the problem.

Okay, i checked in the msi gaming app and it told me that my cpu runs at 4,4Ghz, whick is 0,2Ghz over the default. My motherboard is the MSI 270 Pro Carbon, does this automatically set the voltage really high?

I got the program, but it is kinda complicated and i have no idea how to use it. Where do i see the voltage?

Edit: I figured out by myself how to see it, it seems like the VID is capped at 1,52V and the core clock is capped at 2,5Ghz.
How can i change this, and what should i change it to?

Edit 2: I disabled Turbo boost from the BIOS, but it doesn't seem to affect the maximum voltage. How do i lower it? I tried pressing some buttons, didn't do anything.

Edit 3: The temperature was not affected by more than a few degrees

you need to run some load.
even the benchmark in CPU-Z will be enough. you need to look at voltage and frequency while the CPU is at 100% usage.
7700K should be over 4GHz at 100% load. if it does not - there is a problem. probably overheating.
And again overheating can be caused by bad BIOS settings, wrong cooler installation and few other less relevant things.
What I'm trying to lead you to is to verify that the BIOS settings are OK.
Since you are using MSI board, make sure that no overclocking profile was selected in BIOS.

I touched the BIOS settings once again, this time changing the pump and fan speeds. I plaid some games and ran some load, and the temp never rose over 80 celsius, which is a significant degrease. And just to clear things up, earlier i said that my cpu ran at 2.5Ghz, it was a typo. I meant to say 4.5Ghz.
Thanks for answering my questions, is the temperature okay now, or should i try to change it even more?
