Hello,

I currently have 2x 4GB sticks of Kingston ram and was wondering if it would be fine to install another 2x 4gb sticks so that I would have 16gb?

Also, if there different voltages or frequency can I change them all at the same time or will I have to insert them at different times?

Thank you!

Solution
You can get another 2x4GB kit, but try and make sure you get the exact same kit, cause even if you do get identical sticks, it's not guaranteed to work, but getting identical sets decreases the chance of instability.

If it works, run memtest86 to make sure it's stable, if it isn't stable, you'll probably have to bump up the memory voltage or lower the frequency of the ram to make it stable.

again though, it's kinda rare, i ran a 2x4GB kit of DDR3 with a 2x8GB kit of DDR3 (same brand and timings) and it worked right out of the box.

You have two 4gb sticks of DDR4? 4GB DDR4 sticks are not that common, ryzen requires DDR4.

Mixing RAM is hit or miss, especially with ryzen, If you want the best shot at compatibility you should buy another kit of what you already have assuming it's DDR4, but no guarantees even doing that. RAM is best bought as a kit all at once.

But what if there the same company/brand, voltage and frequency? Will that work?

Doesn't matter, even that might be unstable. Cause even though it might be identical in the brand and model name, they could be using different MCs. For example, some could come with Samsung modules and some can come with Hynix modules.

Doesn't mean a samsung + hynix configuration won't work, it's just it's not guaranteed to work. Now if you get identical models and they both have identical MCs, then it's guaranteed to work.

So would I be able find out what the MCs are before buying it? And can I find out which MC I have right now?
P.S. what is MC?

Hwinfo64 can give what mc is on the module.Open it,the close the system sumary,in the main window on the left side click "memory"->click one of the sticks and and in the info should it be given. Not always, but with latest hwinfo and latest ram i think it will show.

Best way is just to test if sets are compatible. I wouldn't take the heatspreaders of btw.
