Computer issues (Crashing and slowdown) come first than Security. What happen you cant turn your computer on you say thats good?,

Like always i Disabled Windows Update Services (Windows 10) to prevent force installs allowing me to review if the patches might cause issues to random number of people and it did.

I will turn it back and update as soon the patches are fully fixed and stable to proceed.

Want to make anyone that update bios and applied encounter issue later?

you don't think windows / microsoft / intel would break more than they fix, do you?

to be frank, that's been my plan - let the dust settle and make sure all the patches play nice with each other

lol right, cause preventing security updates from installing is a good thing. if an update breaks your computer its not the software's fault its because your computer is a lemon

and you state that so collegially - sorry to bust your bubble but my "lemon" ran fine for 2 years till MS starting dumping a bunch of updates, then my computer crashed on reboot more than one time after installing a number of updates - now i know in your little world that only happens to "lemons" but in the real world it happens to quite a few people.

then there have been two instances where the update was a total disaster and MS has to issue corrective updates....but wait, that didn't involve lemons, it involved everybody.

plus we've been exposed to this vulnerability for how long now without knowing it, another month or so isn't really going to hurt.

Thanks for your opinion, mom

I know i will update around start of Next Month once all Windows Updates patches, Drivers and BIos are fully released.

What does" Improve Memory compatibility" do?

that means with the BIOS updates they support or improve support for more makes and models of RAM

LOL i don't care what you do with your computer kid but don't try to mislead people with your ignorance especially when it comes to security

Interesting comment in tom's updated article on this very subject

"Updated, 1/18/2018, 6:00am PT: ASRock said in a statement that it's "aware that the current Intel microcode version might be defected by security vulnerabilities" and is "working closely with Intel to fix and update new BIOS for ASRock 100/200/Z370/X299 series motherboards." You can find these BIOS updates on the company's website. MSI also released updates for its Vortex and VR One series laptops. You might want to wait to install these updates, however, because Intel has warned that they can cause problems with many of its recent CPUs"

uhhhh....what was that you were saying about ignorance

it's snarky obnoxious posters like you that make me wonder, as a child, would your parents not let you play with other kids, or would the other kids just not want to play with you

I glad i did not install it right away as it causes issues to Kaby Lake System as expected. I will wait early Next Month to get everything updated as it be finalized during that time.

Good idea i disabled Windows Updates services for Windows 10 or else i going force me to reformat the Windows 10 losing some data.

Hopefully CPU & Motherboards Makers and Windows get all the reliability patches by start of next month to have my Intel i9 7940X and Intel i5 7600 secured.

System OEMs Recall Meltdown/Spectre Patches

major system OEMs are recalling their previously issued patches for the Meltdown/Spectre vulnerabilities. Acer, Asrock, Dell, HP, and Lenovo have all made updates on their websites notifying customers that their existing patches are defective. Dell, HP, and Lenovo also withdrew their existing patches.

Intel put Money First from Consumers first instead of Security.
Lawsuit appears...

Nice little tool , to check the Spectre and Meltdown security status of your CPU
.

InSpectre
Direct Link for the tool

Safe: Nothing to install. Just run , and it instantly tells you if your CPU is secure.

If you have the Microsoft Patch and the BIOS update for your board , results should be NO and NO.

NOTE: Intel has asked motherboard manufacturers to take down some of the current BIOS releases that fix the vulnerability due to a lot of systems not booting or being very unstable. A new stable BIOS to fix the issue will be released in the near future for the ones that were taken down.
