Hey all,

First post here, so forgive me if my info is a little scattered.

Recently built a new computer for recording gameplay, or well, I'm in the process of it anyway. Have it all together, but pressing the power button isn't doing anything for it. Not super sure what the problem is or if I messed up somewhere.

I have the 24 pin power connecter plugged in and the 8 pin connector in as well, there is a green light near the front panel connectors, I'm guessing that means the board is getting power, and there's a strip of orange LEDs lighting up towards the bottom of the board. I know for sure I have the front panel power button in correctly and that it works, as well as that there's nothing wrong with my psup, as I ended up reconnecting to my old mobo to test and make sure everything is still working.

Mobo: ASUS Tuf Z270 Mark II
Processor: Intel i7 8th Gen 8700k (thinking this may have something to do with it, I didn't think it mattered because to my understanding this processor is an 1151 and the board has an 1151 socket...)
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 2-Pack 8GB PC4-19200 DDR4 DIMM Unbuffered Non-ECC

I could be crazy and missing something small, but everything seems right so I'm not sure what else to try. This is the second one of these I've had, as the first one that was sent ended up being DOA.

Any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

(Edit: accidentally said the board was a mark I and not a mark II - my bad)

Solution

cpu is not compatible with motherboard

8700k requires Z370 mobo

your motherboard supports up to the 7700k

i would suggest you return the mobo and get the proper one for a 8700k ( Z370 )_
