Hi All,

I have PC with a ASUS Maximus VIII Formula MB and a Nvidia GTX 980 Ti video card which I have just transported by road to my new country of residence after it was in storage for 5 weeks. The video card is no longer working. I have confirmed the monitor and cable a fine and the motherboard video works just fine as well. I also tried moving the video card to another PCI slot. Same result.

There is no video signal at all when the cable is connected to the 980 Ti although the PC does boot up fine as I can access it remotely via VNC and file sharing.

Does anyone have any pointers on how to diagnose the fault, fix it (wishful thinking) or any other helpful tips?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Paul

Connect your monitor to your motherboard I/O and run your PC from your Intel chip’s IGPU.

Update your drivers for the card and check for any Windows updates since it’s been in storage. After you’re done, shut down the PC, reinsert the GPU, and attempt to boot.

If nothing happens, boot from your motherboard again and leave the graphics card inserted. Enter your UEFI/BIOS and locate the PCI section. See if the motherboard even detects the graphics card in the slot.

If not, try flashing the BIOS and check again. If you still cannot see it then you either have a broken card or a broken PCIe slot.

I took the card to an Asus Service Centre and they confirmed it was fried. The suggested replacement under warranty is a GTX 1060. It this acceptable or shall I argue to a higher spec card?
