So I'm planning on building my own gaming computer. I've basically got everything. I've been reading up on motherboards, bios, etc. I've seen some reviews on a certain mobo saying that their CPU wasn't compatible with that specific mobo. But on the same review page, I saw another person stating the same exact CPU was compatible with that same mobo. The person who's did not work, said that their mobo's bios was not up to date enough to where it would support that CPU. Their guess was that the mobo they received was different from others shipped, being that it came with an older bios version. The persons who's DID work must've gotten a more up-to-date bios within the mobo. I know it's a lengthy post, but my question is do I need to update the bios?

Solution
Most of the time, you won't have to touch the BIOS unless an update comes out that improves support for some function of the motherboard.

How will you know? Maybe you update a component and it doesn't function as well as expected and a BIOS update was released that improves functionality. Or maybe you read on a forum somewhere that you should update the BIOS. Who knows.
