Did you run CHKDSK?

It would seem to me that if you're getting freezing and the odd file corruption, your hard disk would be a prime place to start with investigation.

Oh, also, check your event viewer if you happen to have a decent idea of when the last one happened. It may be illuminating.

What are you doing when it freezes? Is there anything that seems to consistently trigger it?

I know I ask a lot of questions, but as I'm giving time to try and help you, please be careful and give full responses if you can - to all of my questions. If you skip something, it will almost inevitably...
Does the PSU react in any way? Does it get particularly hot?

My personal experience has been that catastrophic freezes such as this were related to RAM problems. In my case, they were not properly clocked or seated or something and the BIOS was not very happy with them, so my computer would randomly lock up - completely.

I might suggest based on my experience starting with a memory test of somesort, like maybe Memtest... 86+ I think it is? Look around online, it's easy enough to find via google from its source.

If not, try the next items on the list:

run cmd as administrator:

1. sfc /verifyonly
2. CHKDSK (drive) /? (look for the one that says just to scan, not to fix. It's far quicker.) - I think it's CHKDSK <drive letter> /scan but don't quote me.

That stuff checks hard disks and that Windows' core files are correct.

Memtest86 is a bootable test that runs through your ram and checks to see if there's anything egregiously wrong there.

I will admit I don't really know.... but give it a go.

Also, to help others more informed to assist you, please answer the following:
- Operating System?
- What are you doing when it locks up?
- Have you done a malware scan?
- Please post the results of the scans I mentioned. I would suggest the hard disk ones first, as Memtest takes a decent amount of time.

Best of luck!

The more information we have, the better we can troubleshoot your problem, so if you just answer piecemeal or random parts, all it means is that your problem will take longer to get resolved.

I don't mean that in any sort of rudeness, but it's a chronic issue on Toms, and it slows the whole process down unnecessarily.
Also "I did test a month ago". Were you freezing a month ago? If not, things may have changed and you should run it again.
