What is the best gpu for 1080p 60fps+ ultra gaming and vr? I have done a lot of research and I am interested in older cards as well. My gpu is old and I wanna be able to play newer games at higher settings. Such as pubg. What would be the best card and excluding prices risen from the mining boom. These are my current specs:
ryzen 5 1600
b350 tomahawk mobo
8gb of 2400mhz ram evga
500 watt psu white rated Evga Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR
his hd 7950
crucial mx300 275gb
Samsung 850evo 128gb
500gb 7200 rpm Seagate drive

Solution
1070 is ultra/60 at 1440p. A 1060 6gb is ultra at 1080p/60 (for *most* games). The 1060 is the recommended, not minimum for VR.

Your cpu is above the recommended.

You *might* need a better psu but probably not with a 1060. Go forth and game.

Edit: if you already have most usb ports taken up, will probably need a pcie usb card as the rift takes up several between headset and sensors (and xbox controller if you use one).

so a rx480 or gtx 970/980 won't be good

those are minimum, no ultra

recommended is a gtx 1070 or better

you would also need a better power supply for it
also ryzen is not great for VR, do dont expect a smooth experience

the gpu need to be able to reach and maintain ~90 fps for VR to be a good experience

which is why a 1070 is the place you want to be at

970 is minimum, a 1060 is stronger but still not reaching the level of performance for a good VR experience without sacrificing settings

did you read what people were posting?

" poor resolution and everything is blury/out of focus. Turning up the HMD super sample increased the clarity, but then the framerate goes through the floor of course"

basically they all agreed
1060 is ok, but expect to turn down settings and the like, expect to live with the jaggies otherwise fps tank

let me quote myself:

"970 is minimum, a 1060 is stronger but still not reaching the level of performance for a good VR experience without sacrificing settings"

I did read what they said and the issues were ONLY for the game Elite Dangerous. Everything else was satisfactory.

Here in real life, my neighbor that I talk to a couple times a week, is very happy with his 1060 and Rift. A quick reddit search also shows an endless parade of vr owners happy with a 1060. Believe whatever you wish.
