Just mentioning beforehand that nothing in terms of hardware or software is new.

Today my internet connection to my pc stopped working. Checking the network connections, I see that the Ethernet is in a continuous cycle of Enabled > Identifying > Network cable unplugged.

In terms of cable management, the "original" cable is connected to a router, then I connect it to the desktop. I've tried using another router port but still no luck. I've tried using the original one but still no luck. That's very strange, for my router works just fine. I have good connection on my wi-fi connected devices.

I've configured the ethernet connection speed to 10mbps full duplex and it's no longer in that cycle. Now it works just "fine", though it's not fine having a 10mbps connection (half duplex also works).

This one happened all of a sudden and I can't suspect anything other than the port that my ethernet cable is plugged into.

Will keep you updated to what other methods I try. I am open for discussion and REALLY appreciate any help you can provide. (Internet connection problems are one of the most frustrating ones)

It's possible that Ethernet port has had some kind of hardware failure. It's also possible the problem is with the cable (especially if it's kinked or pressed against a wall or stepped on ... etc). The good news is you can get a new NIC card and Ethernet cable for under $30 and it never hurts to have an extra one sitting around.

I've just been informed that there have been numerous power surges in the apartment complex today for the winter really unleashed itself today through snowfall and a very windy weather. Can that affect the NIC and/or cable while the PC is off?

Off or asleep? Less likely when it's fully off, but still possible. You have the computer (and any other valuable electronics) plugged in through a surge protector?
