Hello Guys.
I have approximately 30 PCs on a network.
Some user have mobile phones and laptops.
I want a monitoring application that i can add ip address and mac address of this devices and i can monitor usage of bandwidth by each ip or mac address.
I have used solar winds but it is so much confusing and it can not show bandwidth usage by users separately .
what i need is another application that i can keep track of usage of bandwidth by users.
I would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me find a solution for my problem.

Not sure which solar winds you are using but their free netflow software is ok. The paid is better but costly. Netflow tends to be the best method to get very granular data on what is going on but it requires a router that can produce the data. I forget what third party firmwares call this but it is something similar to cisco netflow. The good thing about netflow is it puts very little load on the router most the work is done with the collection server/pc

Your largest issue is intercepting the data. You must more or less replace your router with a PC/firewall. The main issue with this is you will need a separate box to provide wifi. You can not just stick a firewall/monitor between the router and the internet because the...
PRTG but it will cost you and you will need the MIP files for some of the devices to monitor different aspects of the network, if you found Solar Winds confusing you stand no chance with PRTG!! Another option would be to swap your router out for a Pfsense build, that will allow monitoring.

You can not just stick a firewall/monitor between the router and the internet because the NAT will hide all the information about the users.

There is one router image that I know that does bandwidth control. It is called gargoyle but I have not messed with it in years so I don't know how well it works on the current routers.

You have to be somewhat careful about attempting to do this on the router, the cpu is just not designed for this function and you still have the issue of where you store the results since no router is going to have a ssd or harddrive.

To monitor individual client's bandwidth, you need to setup a mirroring port in your switch or router. Then you can install internet monitoring program in the mirroring target pc to monitor all bandwidth, even internet usage. If you need a program name, I would recommend WFilter internet content filter. http://www.imfirewall.us
