hello all

i wanted to know if "smart se 730watt" is going to be enough to handle:
770gtx direct cu ii
Core i9-7980XE
any decent ddr4 memory card
motherboard aswell
and cpu stock cooler

Solution

It's not all about the wattage - quality is a bigger concern.

The Smart SE series isn't the best re: quality. You never want to 'cheap out' on a PSU, although that unit could be ok for lower powered rigs, and lesser valued components (less risky).

For high end components (well, the CPU anyway) that you're proposing, I'd definitely look to invest in a quality PSU that's known, proven quality.

SeaSonic are a manufacturer & brand - one of the best.
SuperFlower have some of their own units, but also an OEM (ie they actually make...

165W TDP CPU + 230W TDP GPU..... Maybe 100W for the balance = a little short of 500W + OCing headroom.

Assuming it's a good quality 720W Unit (don't know of many), it would be sufficient, yes.

What PSU do you have specifically? It's not all about the wattage - quality is a bigger concern.

FWIW, the 7980XE doesn't have a "stock" cooler.

SuperFlower have some of their own units, but also an OEM (ie they actually make the internals) for some of the best PSUs out there.

Compare:
SeaSonic Prime 750W, detailed review 10/10
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=481

And the fact there's no detailed, trustworthy review (that I can find) available for the PSU you suggested.
There's enough info to know it's CWT made, so has the potential to be "ok" (ie not great) to pretty horrible overall.

RMi or RMx I'd say for sure, but I think the straight "RM" series are a bit of a drop in quality off the top of my head.

1000W, regardless, is overkill. A QUALITY 750W unit should be more than capable

Where are you located?

If in the US, I see the 1000W RM for about $200 which is totally unnecessary.
Around $100 is all you'd need to look at (you *could* do cheaper, but looking at older platforms then).

SeaSonic Focus+ 750W Gold @ $99.99
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/64cMnQ/seasonic-focus-plus-gold-750w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-750fx

OR
Corsair RMx 750W @ $109.89
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9q38TW/corsair-power-supply-cp9020092na

Would be my suggestions.
