Replacement GPU please help

Solution
Well, apart from the PSU, it looks like a pretty standard build for when those components were new ;)

The 1050 Ti consumes less power than your HD 7870 while also delivering more performance, so it should be fine with the current PSU. Would advise to swap that one out in the next 1-2 years though.

Ok- will need some system specs to start with.

Ideally a run down of your overall system: Cpu, motherboard model, power supply make / model and what the old GPU was.

Also if you can indicate budget- may as well replace it with the best option possible given your budget / system specs.

Please bear with me lovely people, this is basically a copy paste of the actual order a friend did for me a while back (it was a custom build)

Customizations:

CPU: A101 - AMD FX 6300 Black Edition
Operating System: 11019 - Windows 8 (64-bit)
Motherboard: 4165 - Asus M5A97 R2.0
RAM: X2C101 - 8GB DDR3 1600mhz (2x4GB)
Hard Drive: G101 - 500GB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: H101 - 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: 9049 - AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB
Sound Card: Q302 - Onboard 7.1 Audio
Case: 17070 - NEW! Xigmatek Asgard 382 Window
PSU: K603 - 450W Corsair VS

As for a budget, im looking at idealling only having to replace the GPU and at a push the CPU with similar or slightly better, and not having to do much else. Budget can be £1 - 150 for the GPU and well whatever cheapest PSU to handle it.

can be a little flexible.

I game alot and so want to buy a nice gaming PC in the near future but atm its just no viable money wise.

I see a Corsair VS series PSU, I cringe.

Though I'm not sure you can afford to get a new PSU if you have to replace the GPU with that budget...

A GTX 1050 Ti would be the best you can get for that money, should provide a decent performance boost and probably draw less power.

As ZRace said the 1050 Ti is a great choice for a budget card that provides enough power to run current games on decent settings. In addition there are quite a few models that use no external power connectors such as the MSI model.

i Can go up on budget, im honestly flying blind here, my ex built it for me, and he thought he knew everything which explains the shitty PSU. I honestly just want to be able to run it as i had been, possibly sell it on after i buy a new one. Will the current PSU handle the 1050 Ti?

ZRace, thankyou so much for your answer, and your diplomatic wording of my old poorly made PC - you tactfulness was appreciated.

Thanks to all who suggested the 1050 Ti, i have ordered this and hope if for a few months it will serve me well until i can order a new PC. thanks again.
