I purchased a ATI Firepro V5800. I put my graphics card in my computer and swap the video cable to my display (DVI to VGA) and get no display. I haven't had any graphics card before this one except for the on board graphics (Intel HD graphics 510),

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H
CPU - Intel Pentium g4400
Power 500 Watts
8gb RAM

DVI comes in a couple flavors:

First, understand your ports:

VGA - Analog Only
DVI - Depending on the flavor is Analog Only (DVI-A and obscure at best), both Analog and Digital (DVI-I), or Digital only (DVI-D)
HDMI - Digital Only
DisplayPort - Digital Only

Converting from a digital signal to an analog signal requires an active converter. A simple adapter will not work. DVI-A (analog only but again, almost non-existent) and DVI-I (since it also carries an analog signal) will work with a VGA port via an adapter.

DVI-I (both digital and analog) and DVI-D (digital only) will work with HDMI and DisplayPort (both digital only) without issue.
