PC Audio System Through Receiver Only Coming Out Of Left Side

Hey everyone,

I have been stumbled upon an issue for multiple months now and I finally decided to go ahead and ask it here.

Long story short, I have a sound system that is handled by a receiver of which my PC is connected to. It is connected to 4 speakers total. (I have 2 floor channel speakers and 2 35's sitting on my desk.)

I currently have it connected to the receiver by an Aux-to-RCA cable. The aux cable end is plugged into the typical green audio analog port on the back of my motherboard, as usual.

Though, it only utilizes the left floor channel speaker, not the other 3.

I have other inputs with my receiver, as it works perfectly fine with the bluetooth on my phone and it utilizes all speakers, but not my PC.

I have Astro A40's with the Mix Amp and that works perfectly fine on left & right. It's only my speakers.

I know that the green is only supposed to be for two front-channel speakers, but, it doesn't even utilize both speakers.

I don't know if I need to order a cable for this to plug into multiple ports on the back of my motherboard or not.

If you have any answers that aren't typical "retry your drivers" (I've went through all the basics), then, I'd be glad to hear it!

Thank you for your time everyone.

Are you saying that this only happens when your speakers are plugged directly into the green port of your sound card? Have you tried headphones? If you try a functioning pair of headphones on your green port and one channel doesn't work, - chances are, - it's a goner and you would benefit from a new sound card. Sometimes this happens because the balance is set improperly on your player or soundcard utility. But my guess is you already checked that. You're right, it doesn't sound like the typical driver problem, more like hardware issue.

If headphones work fine, - next thing is to check the RCA cable, try a different cable. If cable is fine - it may be one of the input channels of your amp. The best way to figure this out is test each individual component. Sometimes people accidentally pull on their cable and it bends the leads inside the output jack thereby damaging the port. If this is the case, - it is still possible in some cases to fix the port or solder a similar one in place of the old, but if you never done something like this before, - new sound card is a much better option.

I could try a different cable, but, I don't have any clue if it's going to fix it. I tried to check the sound drivers a bit ago, but, it doesn't do anything. It tries grabbing the generic speaker locations and then just plays only from the left. It attempts to transmit audio but doesn't play anything. I don't even know, lol. I was thinking that maybe Windows doesn't really allowed it, but that'd make no sense. I guess I'll try a new cable tomorrow.

If you have a pair of headphones lying around - this will immediately alert you if your soundcard has issues. If headphones play fine - your sound card is fine and the issue is with the cable or the aux input of your amp. You can also try the same cable but different input on your amp. Try squeezing and moving the cable in your hands a little. especially around where the plugs are at each end, as it is' plugged in and one of your speakers is playing. Just make sure not to tug on the sound card's port. If you hear a distortion and both L and R channels intermittently come on as you're playing with the cable, - it's definitely the cable. Cables are usually the most probable culprits, especially cheap cables.

In any case, let us know how it went. This doesn't sound like a difficult problem so I'm confident a solution is just around the corner

Alright! I'll most definitely try that. When you say I should just plug my headphones in, should I plug it into the front panel 3.5mm jack or the back green one? Or what?

(I'm not home right now, that's why I'm just clarifying.)

^ plug it into the same one as youre using for the amplifier at the minute.

You said ypure usimg a 3.5mm to eca for the amp ??

You mean 3.4mm to a twin rca (1 each flrnleft & right channel)

Try swapping the rca's over - if its the cable you'll then get audio from the right but not from the left.

Yes, like the OP said, - try the same port you're using for your amplifier. Assuming that your front port (of the case) is connected to the sound pins on mainboard or your PCI/PCI-E sound card, (some people just don't bother connecting it so only the rear one works) - you could also try the front port. The benefit of this is: If you get L and R headphones working with the front port, but either L or R doesn't work when plugged in rear green port at the back, - you have your problem figured out. This likely means that your rear green output jack is damaged. If you get exactly the same problem with both rear and front ports (one of the channels' doesn't work), - this may indicate a dead channel on the sound card itself. In either case, - you would have to get a new sound card. If you have other output ports in your sound card (the black port for example) you could also try those. Usually though - in your sound card utility (for example in Realtek utility) you would have to specify exactly what you're plugging in , - "Line out", "front speakers out", "headphones out" etc as there will be a menu that pops up every time you plug a device into the soundcard. Oh, and in the unlikely event you haven't done so already - check the balance in your sound card utility, L and R should be same level. Good luck.

I have no clue what the hell I did, but I somehow got it to work I guess? I'm assuming it was my SupremeFX audio driver program.

I plugged in a set of headphones into the front 3.5mm jack, selected headphones, only got left side audio. I plugged it into the green one, chose front speakers and it worked. Replugged in my stereo aux for my receiver and selected front, now all four speakers work.

Gotta love stupid technology sometimes. ^_^

Thanks to the both of you. <3
