Been searching around and doing some research and I found out the price of i7 7700k here in the Philippines is now very low, and some good motherboards too. I wanna build a new system but 8th gen processors and boards are still to high here. Question now is it still a good idea to get the 7700k? I know that I should get the 8th gen, but seeing the price of 7th gens here are too good to pass up ($200 and up difference. My budget is a bit ↓).

The i7-7700k is still a very fast processor, and the motherboards are well developed. The i7-8xxx is a faster processor, but only at the extreme: realistically, for most people, the 7700k is just fine. And, as you've seen, less money (including the motherboards).

How does the 8600k & Z370 compare in price to the 7700k & Z270?

My only thought is there will be no upgrade path with the Z270. With Z370 we might see another cpu refresh supported but this is not confirmed one way or the other. You would also have the option of a 8700k but that would be hard to justify the cost.

Can you differentiate the two please, 'for dummies'.
And please add this variables:
Gaming: E-sports titles only.
Editing: Photo and Video only (Not 3d rendering, or something heavy).

About $200 and up, depending on the board.

7700k vs 8700k
Single thread speed is still quite similar (8700k is faster but not much) however 8700k has 50% more cores/threads. 4/8 vs 6/12.

It depends on the price difference you have to pay (incl. mobo) and your overall budget, picking 7700k can be a good idea and also can be a bad idea.
For a pure gaming machine, I would actually put that price difference better on better GPU.
So yes, I would pick I7 7700k and shift those USD200 for better GPU.
