WIFI cuts out on 2 different cards, works with ethernet

Hello,
I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 over the weekend. I have installed all the latest drivers, (and reinstalled the wifi drivers). But my wifi connection keeps cutting out, for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time. It does it both at home and at work. I also tried installing a USB Wifi adapter (TP-Link) and disabling the onboard Intel adapter, and it still does the same thing. When I am connected via ethernet cable, it works fine.

So it sounds like a Windows issue, or some software since it does it on two different networks and with two different wifi adapters. I could reinstall Windows again, but since this is already a fresh install I'm not sure what that would do. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7737, Windows 10 Home 7309 64-bit.

Here is a list of the software I have installed if that helps any:
Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook)
Photoshop CS3
Audacity
Avast antivirus free
Chrome
Firefox developer
Daemon tools lite
Macrium reflect free
Malwarebytes free
VLC player
Mozilla Thunderbird
Steam
Origin

Thanks for any assistance,
Ed

Solution
Try changing the channel in the modem for the wireless

I would also make sure that the ip addresses arent conflicting. If there's more than one thing that uses wireless

It may not be an issue with your computer. Since multiple Wifi adapters seem to fail I would turn toward troubleshooting your router. When was the last time you rebooted it? What model is it? And which band are you connecting to? (2.4GHz or 5GHz?) Also, where in your home is your router located in reference to your computer?

Hey Jwpanz, I thought of that, except it does it both on my home network, and on the network at work; two completely different routers. My work network uses Orange Livebox2, and my home network uses the modem/router from Free Network (they both came with the internet service).

At work I connect on 2.4ghz N network, at home on 5.2ghz AC network.

Alright, try opening command prompt as an administrator) and typing the following: netsh winsock reset

See if that fixes anything. If not, try uninstalling the Wifi adapter’s drivers through device manager. Then reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturers website. Delete any previous wireless networks you created in your network settings and set up a new one after the drivers install.

Ok, followed all the steps that you listed, reset winsock, uninstalled the Wifi drivers, downloaded and reinstalled the latest drivers from Intel, deleted the wireless networks and created a new one.

I haven't had it completely cut out yet, but it is intermittently really slow. If I go to speedtest.net, and run the test on wifi my speeds are 0.6-2 mbps down and .1 mbps up. If I rerun the same test (with the same server location) while connected to the router via ethernet, I get 12+ mbps down and 1 mbps up, which is what I should be getting. It's not always slow on wifi, I've run it off and on every 5-10 minutes, and one time has been full speed (12.6mbps down), but every other time has been really slow. Slow enough that webpages won't even open. And every time I run it while connected with a cable, it is full speed. I'm alone in the office today, so nothing else is on the internet.

I don't know if it is the same problem, or if I've solved one and created another. I don't have the USB wifi dongle with me at work, but I'm leaving in a few minutes, so I can rerun the above tests with the USB wifi dongle at home to see if it acts the same on the other network and with the other wifi adapter, and update this post then.

Thanks again.

Ok, so apparently I have multiple problems. I think my home router is not working properly because the internet goes in and out on other computers on the network now. I have contacted my internet provider so we'll see what they say. Also, the wifi adapter in my laptop is going bad because it go between a good connection, to a poor connection, to not being connected at all, and back again, when I am on other networks. Also, the USB wifi dongle I had just quit working altogether. I now have a third wifi adapter, and it is working normally while at work. So, once my home internet is worked out. I should be good to go.

Thanks for your help.
