can someone give me a overclock guide for my Q6600 on my Gigabyte 965P-DQ6.
i tried overclocking it but on 3.40 GHz windows starts crashing!(not even the blue screen it looks like a normal restart. it always happens when playing a game for about 15 minutes.)
So i would appricate it if someone could give me some tips or guides( i will give my specs if you need it)

? You are trying to OC and you don't understand how RAM plays a role?

Q6600 runs at 2.4GHz, or 2400MHz. It ran on a 266MHz bus, I think, so it has a CPU multiplier of 9. This also means your ram is running at 533MHz. To get to 3.2GHz there are several ways. I won't work out all the ways, but the easiest is to up the FSB to 400MHz, and drop the CPU multiplier down to 8. This will require DDR2-800MHz. If you don't have 800MHz ram then this won't work as well. If you left the CPU at 9, you could move the FSB to 355MHz, meaning DDR2-667 ram has a better chance of working. 333 vs 355MHz. Trying to push on to 3.4GHz will require an FSB higher then 355 or 400MHz. Depending on your ram, this may or may not be possible.

B3 vs G0 is...

What settings are you using? Which Q6600 do you have? (going from memory there was the B3 and the G0.) G0 is the better stepping obviously and the one that could do 3.2-3.6 more often. The 965 board you have should be able to do it, but ram, cooling and everything else will play a part.

i increased the GHz just a little over time and i decided to stop at 3.20 GHz because thats the highest and stable i can get with my settings now.

do you need to OC RAM to get more performance out of the CPU.
and i dont know what you mean with B3 an G0.

my voltage is now 1.37500 (with 3.20GHz)
and i haven't OC my RAM.

B3 vs G0 is the stepping of the CPU. B3s came first, and have a lower overclock potential. Nearly every G0 could hit 3.2GHz with more possible depending on chip.

The G0 is marked SLACR, the B3 is marked SL9UM. The B3 draws more power, and needs more cooling.

Since that MB supports 333fsb (1333) you could use the tape mod to get to 3GHz. Then tweak the fsb some more after that. You RAM will be at normal speed at 3GHz and won't be so far out of spec. You want the 2nd photo below.
