Approximate Purchase Date: Probably within the next two weeks

Budget Range: $1200 before rebates

System Usage: Gaming (Witcher 3 Mostly)

Are you buying a monitor: Already own a 1080p 24 inch monitor, might upgrade to 1440p but not part of build or budget

Do you need to buy OS: No I own a retail copy of windows

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon, Ncix, Microcenter, Bestbuy. But if another site is available that provides the same product for a lot less that is fine

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Mansfield, Ohio, USA. I have access to a microcenter

Parts Preferences: Doesn’t matter

Additional Comments: My start on a build. (It excludes the GPU because they all seem way too expensive and wonder if anyone else knows which one to buy)
I Own a 250GB 850 Evo ssd so that also does not need to be part of the build

Yeah this is an absolutely terrible time to be building a new PC right now. Not just because of the GPU shortage, but RAM prices are sky high as well because of a B-die shortage, and those don't seem to be coming down any time soon.

That said, you can still buy parts now, and this is what I would suggest without a GPU:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600K 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor ($259.88 @ OutletPC)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H5 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($46.88 @ OutletPC)...
All 1070.1070ti/1080 are out of stock atm. This is your best bet if you build now...

I have that GPU in as a placeholder - no one should pay $500 or more for a 1060, but that is what you are looking at currently.

Yeah I'm hoping the market will settle back down in a month or two. Waiting for the next generation of cards is probably not going to do much of anything to increase availability, unless NVIDIA starts ramping up supply. I'm in the market for a new GPU myself and I'm finding that it's near impossible to score the one I want for a decent price. We'll most likely be paying premiums for a while unless NVIDIA opens up some new fabs soon.
