Founders Edition or MSI X for GTX 1060?

Hello, so I'm still stuck with little funds to put towards a computer and a 1080p monitor. From my research, it seems GTX 1060 is the best bet for me to really get the best quality and FPS from games in 1080 for price/value.

I know this question has been asked before but given the current date and price differences, it's really worth a think about.

GTX 1060 MSI GAMING X 6GB = £330.54
GTX 1060 Founders Edition = £279

I looked at benchmarks and it seemed MSI's version only gives about 1-4 more FPS at a cost of £51.54 extra.

(Plus, I much prefer the appearance of the FE)

At this point of time, taking in the prices, is MSI's version really worth it? I do plan on streaming with this card, so maybe that would be the only reason to further invest in better cooling. Any opinions/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The founders card is fine, the only real downside is it's cooler. They tend to hit 80c quite easily which is when pascel cards will start to throttle, but as you have seen this generally does not affect performance all that much. I actually own the msi gaming x 1060 and I think it's a great card, however when I bought it prices for GPUs were not as ridiculous as they are now.

At those prices I would probably opt for the founders edition.

I have 8GB RAM, i5 6600K, 500W PSU EVGA BRONZE. Nothing too bad for the 1060 imo, unless I maybe put it under too much stress.

500 is good enough if quality is not too bad, what model is it?

Sounds good to me. Just nothing worth the extra £50 right now. Just planning on using this card until years down the line when I have more funds, and probably a 1440p monitor that would require an upgrade. Definitely an upgrade from my R9 380 by far.

As said, it's an EVGA 80+ Bronze, well respected quality-wise from what I remember when researching it. Should hold up fine as specs say the 1060 is recommended with 400W which is shockingly brilliant to me how chips get better and require less power.

I don't know any good EVGA 500 psu...
bronze is efficiency, not quality, many poor quality psus are bronze or even gold...
1060 is not good enough for 1440p AAA titles. For that you will want 1070ti. I actually won't bother upgrade from 380 to 1060, too small improvement. I will save more and get this:

Yes definitely not a good card for 1440p gaming, but currently i'm stuck with a 1080p monitor and think I will be for some years. Was planning on getting this 1060 as it seems to be "the king of 1080p" which suits me fine. After years of using it, will save up towards a 1440p monitor and then eventually maybe 1080 ti. However, I still think 1080p gaming is very much mainstream at this time. I think for my situation and price-value taken into account the 1060 probably fits me best for now. Thanks for the advice tho, I reckon 16K will be out by the time I even touch 1440p :D

Does it take long for it to get to 80C? And how noisy are we talking, plane jet noisy?

80C is max during a stress test. Most of the time it's around 70C. The temps are fine.

When gaming, all PC's increase in volume, but usually the explosions are louder than the PC so I don't notice.
I have a be quiet! Silent Base 800 case and I replaced the side panel with glass.

I had a MSI Gaming X GTX970 that was nice and quiet and cool.
When I got the Founders Edition GTX1070 used for $320, I put the sound proof panel back on and slowed the fan.
The noise wasn't jet plane loud, it's warning buzzer annoying and I can't ignore it.
The sound is not a problem after I tuned it

Thanks for the info, will come back to this at some point if need be as I just ordered mine. I'd rather put up with a bit of noise for £50 less. Considering I have a fan on every night as background noise to sleep to, I don't think I'm allowed to moan either :D again thanks!
