i7-5930k Running too hot?

I've tried looking around but can't seem to find a sure answer.

As of the last few weeks my CPU has been running much higher than it usually does and I can't quite work out what might be the issue.

- i7-5930K
- H100i GTX Cooling
- Titan X
- Dual Monitors running at 144hz
- Room temperature rarely ever exceeds 22 Degrees

Any more information that might be useful to know for this, let me know.

I have been monitoring my temps with different software, HWMonitor / MSI Afterburner / Corsair Link etc and all are giving the same results. My GPU runs perfectly fine, expected temperatures even under load and has absolutely no issues whatsoever. My motherboard temps are also good.

The i7-5930k itself is running anywhere from 58-63 Degrees with a browser open between the cores and 68 package, and the fans are sitting around 1800 RPM with the H100i GTX pump fans at 3000 RPM and ~50 Degrees.

The pump and fans are working perfectly fine, no issues whatsoever.

- If I play for example, CS:GO which is quite a CPU heavy game, my CPU temperatures instantly shoot up to 80+ degrees and after a short amount of time, they will be at 85-90 Degrees as I move around the map etc, usually fluctuating quite rapidly - the fans are running at 2400 RPM+ at this point and the H100i GTX water temps are usually around 54-55 Degrees. Everything else is normal, GPU sitting in the 70's etc, it's just the CPU that has this huge spike and this is only under 31% load

I plan on replacing the thermal paste tomorrow to see if it's just a simple solution such as that (The same paste has been on there for a couple years now - so I wouldn't have imagined it would just suddenly go but I want to rule everything out).

My question is:

"Are these temperatures alarmingly high for this situation?"

I would've thought idle / general browsing I shouldn't really be seeing temperatures above 50 and playing CS:GO and other games certainly nothing in the mid to high 80's and low 90's? What could be possible causes for this sudden increase over the last few weeks?

Thanks.

yeah, 85-90C is high, but if it gives you any assurance, it's doubtful you've damaged your CPU - i ran my intel i7-4790 for about 3 months rendering video files (1-3 hour jobs) with the cpu showing 100% load and temps showing max 67C

that 67C temps was too consistent or predictable, i was relying on ASUS's AI Suite III for temps. I downloaded HWMonitor (CPUID) and it showed 97-100C while Asus's utility was showing 67C. Intel's XTU utility also showed the same 100C temps.

Point is i'd run my cpu at temps that could almost fry eggs for 3 months on 1-3 hour jobs, 1-2 jobs a day.
Once i upgraded my cooler and brought my temps down, i ran some benchmarks in Intel's XTU utility, and the nice part there is, once you've run a benchmark, intel asks if you want to compare your results with others online. Every time i run one, and compare to others running the same cpu and chipset as mine, i'm always in the top 5% score wise.

Intel's CPUs have a thermal throttle limiter, if temps get too high, it slows the cpu down to let it cool some - that was the reason the temps would bounce from 100 down to 97 and then jump back to 100 - but that thermal limit saved my cpu
