I currently have a WD Blue 1TB 6gb SATA hard drive, https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Cache-Desktop-Drive-WD10EZEX/dp/B0088PUEPK?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAIKUO4IQHYSY3DRHQ&tag=thatvgblog-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0088PUEPK

I have had this hard drive for about a year and this is not the first time it has given me issues regarding game load times for example. So the main issue is that before it used to load a level in a game in about a minute and a half, but now it takes 15 minutes to load. There is also some infrequent choppiness during gameplay when I have games installed on the HDD compared to my ssd. It takes even longer just to start up a game and eventually I had to switch out the sata cable and switch to a different sata port which didn’t fix the issue.

This is such a huge degradation in performance and I have no idea why. The hard drive essentially makes a number of games unplayable due to how long it takes to load or “lag” ingame. I only use this HDD to store pc games and currently has 550gb free and according to HD tune, nothing seems wrong with it. I have also defraged it but doesn’t fix the issue. Temperature is also 29 Celsius if that makes a difference. Anybody have suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Have you used Windows' tool to check for errors? Also, have you tried testing it, such as copying files to or from that drive to see what speeds are like? The idea is to rule out a game loading problem and verify this is a hard disk problem. In your post the only problem you mention is game load times.

I checked for errors through windows and nothing came up. I can copy files from and to the hard drive. The speeds are very inconsistent so I don’t know what to make of it and don’t know if that’s good or bad. For example I copied a 430 mb size file from the HDD to my desktop and it fluctuates between 20 to 50mb/sec. I copied a different file similar size and it fluctuates between 10 to 25mb/sec so again I can’t tell if this is good or bad. The copying process only took 15-20 seconds or so.
