Motherboard/PSU cable problem

Hello, i recently started building a new PC and have encountered a problem. On my mother board there is a 2x2 slot near where the CPU should go, and my PSU comes with a cable labeled for CPU that has a 4x2 pin. I was wondering if I must now buy a new PSU that will fit the port or if it will work as is.

You can just plug 4 pins from the 2x4 pin CPU cable from your PSU, leaving one of the 4 pins hanging there.

the cable should split up in 2x 4 pins connectors usually sliding them apart, just connect one set and leave rest hanging
