Will getting a new modem increase my download speed?

I'm downloading a few games and when i have a look at the speeds it goes to high speeds such as 200mbs then can drop to 25mbs then gets suck at 5mbs? If i do buy a new modem or router, will it cause me to have a more stable download speed higher than 5?

have you tested your internet speeds with specialized service like ookla speedtest ?

Unknown. Start by connecting to your router with a wired connection to eliminate the inconsistencies of WIFI.

what is the link speed between computer and router ?
what is the internet connection speed you are paying for ?
what type of internet you are using (ADSL, cable, sat )?
